GROW · Branding & Process

GROW is a hydroponic gardening project at UNC Charlotte. I was given the opportunity to design a brand for the project while working with the university dining service department and collaborating with the Compass Group corporate creative design team. Working on the project was particularly gratifying for me because of the conscientious intentions of the idea.

The final product

We were given two Zip-grow vertical hydroponic gardening units. The units were be displayed in a high-traffic dining hall rotunda on the campus of UNC Charlotte. Our central goal was to grow fresh produce, and educate visitors about vertical hydroponic gardening and the global hyper-local farming revolution.

Texture

Composite graphics I created for background texture purposes

I created various patterned textures using an image of an exhibition that I took at the Renwick Gallery in Washington DC. I used a section of the image and reflected it to create a symmetrical composition. Then modified it further converting the composition to a duotone. I placed the composition on top of a solid green and used a radial gradient mask on the texture composition to reveal some of the color below. I experimented with several colors, we ended up going with the green version.
